Sejak kenal Komunitas Charlotte Mason di FB group, asuhan mbak Ellen Kristi, saya merasa cocok untuk menerapkannya ke homeschooling Fachry. Dulu saat saya mengikuti webinar pengantar Homeschooling dari Rumah Inpirasi yang dipandu Mbak Mira Julia dan Pak Aar Sumardiono, memang sering disebutkan sebaiknya kita tidak mengkotak-kotakkan termasuk berHS menggunakan metode apa, yang terbaik adalah yang cocok untuk keluarga dan khususnya anak kita yang menjalaninya. So saya sering compare semua metode, saya praktikkan dan amati apakah itu sesuai untuk Fachry.
Belum terlalu banyak sebenarnya yang saya ketahui tentang metode Charlotte Mason ini, selama ini yang sudah saya ketahui adalah tentang living book.
Untuk years 0 sendiri menurut Ambleside Online tidak ada kewajiban khusus untuk membacakan semua buku dan sesuai jadwal. Berikut adalah buku-buku yang disarankan untuk year 0 :Buku-buku Berkualitas (living books) Charlotte mengibaratkan pikiran anak ibarat tubuh jasmani yang perlu makanan yang bergizi. Gizi itu adalah ide-ide inspiratif -- “pikiran-pikiran akbar, peristiwa-peristiwa akbar, perenungan-perenungan akbar” (Vol. 6 h. 5) yang membentuk bangsa dan dunia kita -- yang ditransfer "dari pikiran ke pikiran" terutama lewat buku-buku. Maka, Charlotte tak pernah lelah menekankan pentingnya menyajikan buku-buku terbaik sebagai materi pelajaran anak: ditulis langsung oleh si pemikir, tidak diringkas menjadi buku teks atau lembar kerja siswa yang garing; ide itu musti dibaca secara utuh, bukan hanya dicuplik sana sini dan diberikan kepada anak secara sepotong-sepotong. Fachry sendiri baru punya satu judul dari karya Beatrix Potter yang kami dapatkan dari http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14838. Saya pun masih mengenalkan dan melatih Fachry untuk bernarasi meski hanya simple narration. Tentang narasi ini sendiri juga menjadi salah satu dari ciri metode Charlotte Mason yang lain.
